Families Commission

In 2004 Mission Hall was approached by the Families Commission to create a unique brand that would stand out amongst ‘like’ organisations. Mission Hall came up with the Families Commission brand that is non-bureaucratic, positive, approachable and inclusive of different ethnicities.

As families are so often diverse, it was important to represent non nuclear families showing grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers (ie the extended family) young and old – not just the mother / father two children family unit. Working with the illustration is complex and often have more than just one group of people / family. To show various cultures and socio-economic groups, we used different skin tones, patterned fabric representing different cultures, old and new cars, city and suburban environments, extended family, disabled people, groups of families and so forth.

Valuing Parenting campaign

Valuing Parenting campaign Adshel

Our latest campaign for the Families Commission aims to raise the profile of parenting in New Zealand; to celebrate, value and respect the job that parents do.

By promoting parenting as the best day’s work you’ll ever do, we hope to get parenting recognised as a tough and demanding, yet essentially rewarding profession.

The illustrative/photographic look we have created for the campaign is different, but complementary to the Families Commission corporate branding.

Utilising bright, fun imagery compiled as montages (much like a child would do during arts and crafts), the visuals are a perfect representation of a ‘day in the life’ of a parent. Each of the eight visuals use humorous anecdotes to highlight the numerous jobs parents juggle on a daily basis, validated by the campaign strapline ‘Parenting. The best day’s work you’ll ever do’.

Various media was used including busbacks, adshels, supermarket trolley advertising, postcards, print and online advertising, including advertorials and a dedicated website providing hints and tips about parenting.

Photography for Families Commission

We created a dynamic look for the Families Commission photography that portrays ‘every day’ family scenes – their makeup and workings.

These photos are a key branding component to bringing their corporate communications to life. We worked with the client to establish the brief, develop photo scenarios and source talent. We commissioned photographers, and project managed and art directed each photo shoot to completion.
